Steps

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a small 15cm cake pan or line with parchment paper. 2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. 3. Beat in the egg until fully incorporated, then mix in the vanilla extract. 4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. 6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. 7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. 8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. 9. Once cooled, the cake is ready to be decorated or served.
