Crispy Southern-Style Fried Chicken

A homemade version of the classic KFC fried chicken with a perfectly seasoned, crispy coating and juicy interior. This recipe captures the essence of Southern comfort food in a single serving.

Steps

1. Place the chicken leg in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over it. Cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour. 2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. 3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then dredge it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. Press the flour onto the chicken to create a thick coating. 4. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat to about 350°F (175°C). 5. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for about 10-12 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C). 6. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
